If there was ever a cheers to Boomerang on Instagram, it’s this one — let’s virtually cheers to making it through the Alo Moves Challenge together! It has been a long month (I can’t be the only one who felt like it was never-ending?!) but we’ve made it to February and are hopefully stronger than we were a month ago.

Going into this challenge, my goals were to stay consistent, try out some new forms of exercise I hadn’t done before (here’s looking at you, Barre!), and hopefully enjoy some nice side effects like more overall strength and energy. While there were definitely days I had to dig deep, I’m glad to be on the other side of this and have learned a thing two. For starters, as much as I try, I’m just not an early morning workout person, and that’s OK. I also learned that practicing fitness classes with someone else is more fun than doing it alone. With my husband out for work this week, I had to wrap up the challenge without him by my side. Lastly, I learned that after a month of mostly  fitness classes, I’m craving some more yoga and meditation classes! I’m looking forward to switching things up in February.

Here’s how the last week of the challenge went for me:

Monday, Day 16

Roxie Jones teaching her "Power Cardio: Low Impact" class

Class: Power Cardio: Low Impact with Roxie Jones

Ever since Roxie’s first series (which this class is a part of!) debuted on Alo Moves not long ago, I’ve been wanting to try one of her classes. The only problem was that I knew I wasn’t physically at the level yet to practice the whole series, so today’s class was a good taste now that I have a few weeks of a consistent fitness routine going. This class was the perfect introduction to her series as it wasn’t overwhelming but still broke me out into a good sweat while bringing back memories of growing up playing soccer with the speed and agility drills.

Tuesday, Day 17

DJ Townsel teaching his "Core Crush" class

Class: Core Crush with DJ Townsel

I was happy to see another class by DJ on the calendar, as I like his chill vibe and I’m partial to core work. This class was a quick 15 minutes and the perfect way to squeeze in a midday stretch, core burn, and energy boost.

Wednesday, Day 18

Emily Sferra teaching her "Full Out: Upper Body" class

Class: Full Out: Upper Body with Emily Sferra

I knew I was in for an intense class after seeing Emily was the instructor! Flashing back to the first week of the challenge, Emily’s class knocked me off my feet. I was hoping this time around I’d be a bit more prepared and in better shape than a month ago, and while this was a different series, it was still intense but in a much more attainable way. I actually ended up really liking the pace and the mix of exercises that left me feeling like I had fit in a complete upper-body workout. This one is going to be added to my practice for sure!

Thursday, Day 19

Josh Kramer teaching his "Burn: Legs" class

Class: Burn: Legs with Josh Kramer

This class was a cool and creative way to both stretch and strengthen my legs. I liked the dynamic nature of this class, especially since it was on the shorter side. There were a couple of movements that reminded me that my balance is still a work in progress, and I’m looking forward to focusing on that a bit more this next month.

Friday, Day 20

Patrick Beach teaching his "The Power" class

Class: Day 4: The Power with Patrick Beach

Not the ideal way to end the challenge, but when mama duty calls, you must listen. With my husband out for work and me working from home with a toddler (also at home because #pandemiclife), I gave myself some grace for missing today’s class. It’s always tough to strike a balance between everything in this new normal, but all we can do is try, and showing up for myself this past month has been an incredible boost when I needed it most.
