What's a Yoga Pose You've Learned to Love? We Asked 5 Teachers
Once you start practicing yoga regularly, you’ll notice that you may gravitate towards certain poses; the ones that you can do with ease, the ones that make you feel extra good, or even the challenging ones you have your eye on mastering.
On the flip side, you’ll probably discover that there are poses that you don’t fall in love with immediately, but that over time you learn to love. We rounded up some of our Alo Moves yoga and meditation instructors to ask them which pose they’ve learned to love along the way. Here’s what they shared:
Plank Pose
“I LOVE Plank Pose. I didn’t always. It’s a hard one and doesn’t “feel good.” My love for Plank was kind of a “trust the process” type love. The more I practiced a correct Plank Pose, the more strength and power I brought to my practice. Plank Pose is one of the fastest ways to strengthen almost your entire body as well as teach you full body awareness, stability, and control.”

Handstand
“Handstand! When I first moved to Los Angeles, I couldn't hold an inversion no matter how hard I tried. I knew that if I was going to become the teacher I wanted to be, I would need to nail them. So, I took every class with the teachers who I knew were teaching inversions. At the time, this was Brent Laffoon, Krista Cahill, and Brock Cahill. Once I started to undo my externally rotated hips from my dance background, I began to find my balance upside down!”

Happy Baby Pose
“Happy Baby! It’s hip opening and allows my body to feel deserving of simplicity and joy. That's always a gift.”

None!
“I've never learned to love a pose or had a dislike for any particular asana. There are definitely many shapes I still struggle with and several that I go to more than others. Poses are to the yogi what brushes are to an artist. They're tools we use to carry out our intentions and help us achieve our goals.”

Shamatha Meditation
“A practice I’ve learned to love over time is shamatha — or peaceful abiding meditation. Initially, it can seem quite boring, as it’s the very simple practice of resting with your breath. However, after many years of practice, I’ve found it to be the most powerful foundation for any other meditative experience.”
