These 3 Journal Prompts Will Help You Mindfully Start Each Month

Journaling is an excellent mindfulness activity to help you process your thoughts, emotions, and ideas. And while we’ve long known about the benefits of journaling for your mental health, there are also benefits for your physical health as well. If you’re looking for new ideas to refresh your weekly wellness routine, carving out time to journal is the perfect activity to help you relieve stress, process the day, and better understand yourself.

Journaling is a big part of Alo Moves yoga instructor Kayla Nielsen’s life that she said has helped her learn how to trust and understand her path. “When I began to incorporate meditation and journaling gratitude into my daily life, I started to notice an internal shift occur as I lessened that death grip of control and surrendered to trusting a greater process instead,” said Nielsen.

While writing does involve a time commitment, you can start building your journaling ritual by setting aside time at the beginning of each month and gradually work from there. Nielsen offers these three journal prompts to help you get aligned with your inner world and set the tone for the month ahead.

“These are questions you can pose to yourself, your loved ones, or keep totally private in your own journal and heart,” said Nielsen. “The purpose of ceremony and ritual is the simple act of remembering. Remembering that we are here, now. In that remembering, we’re reminded that being here is important. Being here matters. Remembering, like ceremony, might feel funny at first because most cultures have trained us to forget, instead. But all these moments of remembrance — no matter how big or small — will keep bringing you back to you.”

  2. Where could I use a little more work and how will I carve out time to dedicate to this area?

  3. What is my intention for this new month?
