Pilates is a low-impact workout that involves a lot of bending, stretching, folding, and balancing, so naturally, you want an outfit that’s non-restricting and breathable. Whether you’re taking an in-person Reformer workout or you’re just at home using a mat, sliders, and weights, wearing the right clothing is the first step to get into the right mindset. And a bonus is that you’ll look cute, too!

Below, we rounded up some functional yet fashionable items that will give you the most out of any Pilates sesh so you can focus on sculpting and toning without any wardrobe distractions. Take a cue from Alo Moves’ expert Pilates instructors Bianca Melas and Tela Anderson, who wear body-hugging leggings, tanks, and sports bras so they can see their form and move freely from one position to the next. Once you’ve got the perfect outfit, you’ll also want to check out their classes available on Alo Moves, like Tela’s Pilates Cardio Sculpt Series or Bianca’s No Reformer, No Worries session. What to Wear to a Pilates Class

  • Fitted tops. While wearing a T-shirt would be a breathable and comfortable option, you'll want a fitted top to ensure that you can check your form and not snag.

  • Conforming stretch leggings or bottoms. For the same reasons to wear a fitted top, you’ll also need some leggings, bike shorts, or other bottoms that feel like a second skin with ample stretch. Ones with flat seams are preferable to avoid any irritation or unnecessary friction.

  • Low-impact sports bra. Pilates doesn’t involve explosive or fast movements, but you still want to feel supported. Opt for a low-impact bra that doesn’t feel ultra-constricting.

  • Grip socks. These non-slip socks are typically used for Reformer classes to hold poses, protect your feet, and provide added stability.

  • Hair ties. Keep any strands away from your face using fabric hair ties for a distraction-free workout.

Hair ties are also essential. Less hair out of your face means less distractions when you’re working through that burn in your arms, legs, and core. These fabric ones, which come in a variety of colors, are soft and snag-free.

3. Alo Yoga Wild Thing Bra
