My Morning Routine: Ashley Galvin

How does Alo Moves yoga teacher Ashley Galvin get energized for her day? With a healthy dose of coffee, toddler cuddles, and 6 a.m. dance parties (yes, you read that right!).

Learn how Ashley Galvin starts her day with her mindful morning routine.

5 a.m.
My morning starts anywhere between 5 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. My three-year-old daughter Koa is my alarm clock. We spend the first hour playing, cuddling, and oftentimes having dancing parties (yes, at 6 a.m.!).

7 a.m.
I have a cup of coffee, straight black, and we make breakfast together. Usually Koa asks for a “green moosie” green smoothie ( I’ll list the recipe here because if a three-year-old likes it, you know it’s good!):

½ - ¾ can coconut water

1 banana

1 handful frozen pineapple

2 handfuls fresh spinach

Then we get ready for the day, which consists of more dancing, cuddling, and me pleading/bribing Koa to let me brush her hair and teeth.

My makeup consists of tinted sunscreen and mascara — fast and simple.

8:30 a.m.
I take Koa to school, and on the way home I usually stop by the coffee shop to grab a nonfat latte, my go-to drink. I only drink black coffee at home in the morning and a latte anywhere or anytime else.

9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
My routine changes by the day, but my one constant is my practice. I make sure to get on my mat once a day. Sometimes that’s in a yoga class in a studio, sometimes it’s a quick workout at home, or it’s self practice. The length of classes changes, but it’s my time to connect with myself.

After my mat time, it’s a mix of creating workouts and yoga classes for you here on Alo Moves, photo shoots for Alo Yoga, work calls/phone meetings, emails, and the most exciting thing...I am currently creating a hair product just for you (I was a hairstylist for 13 years before becoming a yoga teacher). This product will be natural, tropical, nourishing, smoothing and amazing!

When the weather is hot, I’m at the beach. I will drop almost anything for a beach day! Luckily I live 10 minutes from Laguna Beach so I am able to go almost daily. Sometimes I can even bring my work to do on the beach. This is where I am most inspired. There is something about the ocean that brings me to life and helps with creativity and keeping my healthy lifestyle.

No matter how busy your schedule is, it’s really important to take time out to enjoy something just for you, everyday, for 10 minutes or 60 minutes. It could be a workout, a coffee with a good book, or time spent in nature. Make sure you give back to yourself. It’s how you stay your “best self” so you can give others your best self.
