How to Balance Your Hormones: 4 Tips from a Naturopath
These tips are sourced from certified clinical naturopath and Alo Moves Pilates instructor Bianca Wise. You can follow her on Instagram for more tips on wellness, cycle syncing, and Pilates. Please consult your doctor before beginning or modifying your diet and exercise routine.
Feeling out of whack? Your mood, energy, and so many other factors can be thrown off depending on what point you’re at in your cycle. Along with consulting with your doctor to rule out any medical issues that could be causing a hormone imbalance, activities like cycle syncing can help you learn more about your body’s natural patterns and help you understand how you can support your wellness and balance your hormones throughout the month.
Aside from tracking your cycle, there are a few more natural ways to balance your hormones that you can incorporate into your daily life. Here are a few things you can start doing this week.
Cycle sync your workouts.
“Cycle sync your exercise to work in flow with your body’s natural energy levels rather than against it,” says Wise. When your energy is higher in your cycle, that’s when it’s best to push yourself harder in your workouts. When your energy is lower, it’s helpful to lean into lower-impact workouts and rest days. 2. Enhance your diet.
Wise recommends adding foods that support your body’s detox pathways. “Include foods like cruciferous vegetables, dandelion root tea, berries, and dark leafy greens to help with hormone clearance,” says Wise.
You should also look into foods that reduce inflammation in your body. Wise suggests ginger, turmeric, wild-caught fatty fish, leafy greens, and berries. It’s also a good to cut back on alcohol, gluten, caffeine, sugar, and dairy, common ingredients that could cause inflammation within your body.

3. Manage your stress.
We get it — things like work, taking care of your family, and other projects sometimes can’t wait. But you can focus on adding in holistic habits that balance out the chaos of a hectic schedule.
“Find something that helps you feel safe, secure, and grounded,” says Wise. She suggests activities like journaling, walking, Pilates, breathwork, saunas, and meditation to support your mental and physical wellness. Here are a few classes from Bianca that you can access for free on Alo Moves.
4. Use non-toxic household products.
According to the National Institutes of Health, “endocrine-disrupting chemicals are natural or human-made chemicals that may mimic, block, or interfere with the body’s hormones.” People are commonly exposed to these through foods and beverages, cosmetics, and pesticides via diet, air, skin, and water exposure.
Look into the items you commonly use in your home and identify which changes would make the most meaningful impact for you. Wise suggests swapping your beauty, household, and cleaning items for low-toxic options. Wise says, “Look out for pots and pans covered in non-stick [coating], fragrances, sunscreen, skincare, plastic containers, plastic water bottles, and 30-second microwave rice packs.”
